Quora Questions about Music, Inspiration and Hollywood’s Sexual Harassment

Here are some random questions asked that I answered about music, being inspired to follow my dream and the issue of Hollywood’s sexual harassment. Mind you, I’m not an expert in any of the answers I have provided. I’m just a squirrel in the world trying to find a nut like everyone else.

What inspires you the most to follow your dreams?

My dream has always been to be a singer/songwriter or writer. I’ve semi accomplished both but not to the level I want, therefore, I’m still pursuing the later.

What inspired me is my need to be creative. That need requires me to be paid for my efforts so I don’t have to work a 9–5 job, which I’m still doing today.

But I’m going to speak about a goal and then circle back to my dream.

In 2009 I pursued my goal of working in the IT field. 2010 didn’t see that goal come to light, but 2013 did. Since 2013 until now (2017) I was in the IT field. two years into it I realized I hate it, but the money was good there, so I stuck it out. I was miserable but liked the paycheck. Last year I quit a job in IT to pursue other things that didn’t work out and ended up back in IT, basically because that’s where my skills and experience were strong.

Right now, I have job that’s not in IT (YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO). This job is a do your job within these hours and go home. In IT, you do your job and go home and worry about what you have to do the next day. One IT job required me to be on call once a month. In IT the job is never done.

Back to my dream. I’m pursuing my dream hot and heavy this year. I’m consistent with my blog posts and trying to get more consistent with my YouTube posts (I just started the YT channel so working on that right now). When I write, I feel free. I’m doing YouTube just to get myself out there more. In addition, more people are apt to listen to someone than read what they wrote. Therefore, my YT channel is basically a verbal account of my blog posts.

As mentioned, I have this need to be creative and want to make a living doing so. I don’t want to be rich, just want get paid for it. The day job I have now allows for my creative juices to flow when I’m not at work. I don’t have to worry about someone’s computer still in an unusable state or dealing with callers all day long.

I’ve reached a stage in my life that my happiness is worth more than being unhappy at job no matter how good the pay is.

All of what I said boils down to inner desire and need. I was not put on this Earth to be a cog in someone else’s wheel.

I did accomplish the singer/songwriter part of my goal by recording two CDs which are out for sale on iTunes and Google Play under the name Nikki Carlyle.

Hollywood’s Sexual Harassment and Consequences For The Democrats

Disclaimer: I summed up the question due to its length. The original question was this:

Now that the curtain has been pulled back, and the depths of depravity revealed in Hollywood, will there be any consequences for Democrats? Aren’t Democratic campaigns & endorsements forever tainted by the broken & abused who were forever scarred?

I’m not sure how you can blame the Democrats for what is happening in Hollywood. This is not a Republican or Democratic issue, this is Hollywood’s issue. Also, this has been going on since Hollywood was invented, the only difference is social media is around today.

Errol Flynn was accused of raping someone, which I believe he was found not guilty. But if I remember correctly, he made a comment about the woman being too ugly for him to rape her. That statement there tells me he could be a rapist if the woman was good looking and wasn’t willing to give it up.

Most of these people in Hollywood, especially those who hold the key to your stardom (directors, producers and such) have been known for their casting couches. Executives of these studios have always swept things under the rug.

What’s going on in Hollywood won’t end. And it’s not just Hollywood this happens in. The only difference is these people being accused of such acts are well known and thus, a bigger story.

But I also look at the number of women that want to claim they were victims as well. How many can we say are actual truths while others are seeking their 15 minutes and some money?

Cocaine Godmother [Movie Trailer]

I’m interested in the criminal underbelly for some reason. The mob and high profiled drug dealers were my main interest. But if the criminal is a female, I’m even more interested. It’s because women are gentle and caring for the most part. Or at least that’s what we’re taught.

I don’t remember when I first heard of Griselda Blanco. But I do when I saw her I thought she was awesome and scary at the same time. Awesome because she was a women kingpin in a man’s world. Scary, well, she’s a scary looking person.

I began watching shows about her and learned how ruthless she was. She’s known to have killed 200 people, and I wouldn’t doubt that number. The number might be higher.

Here’s how the Biography website sums up Blanco:

Colombia-born Griselda Blanco was a high-level operative in the infamous Medellin Cartel, known for trafficking cocaine in major urban centers like Miami, Florida, and her murderous ways. She was killed in 2012.

I remember when Blanco died. And I knew it was an assassination and not a random shooting. Blanco was too powerful.

Here’s an article on her death:

In 2002 a movie called Empire came out.

Here’s a description (not written by me)

For Victor Rosa (John Leguizamo), that blunt world-view has come to define his life. A Latino hustler from the South Bronx, Victor has worked his way up the neighborhood ladder to become a crew leader for Joanna “La Columbiana” Menendez (Isabella Rossellini). But after narrowly escaping an attempt on his life, Victor realizes that he needs to get out of the Bronx, both for himself and for his girlfriend, Carmen (Sonia Braga), the only thing more important to him than money.

When Isabella Rossellini (pictured below) came on the scene I immediately thought of Griselda Blanco. The role of La Columbiana, I felt, was based on Blanco but from what I’ve learned it wasn’t.

Lifetime is infamous for making biography movies of famous people and they are horrible. The most memorable was the Whitney Houston movie. But I have high hopes for Cocaine Godmother from the trailer I’ve seen (see below). Plus, Lifetime seems to make good biography movies on criminals. The Jodi Arias movie comes to mind as one that was pretty good.

I’m looking forward to the movie and feel Catherine Zeta-Jones will do a great job as Griselda Blanco.

Here’s a trailer for the movie provided by New Trailer Buzz

My first question was how could someone as good looking as Catherine Zeta-Jones play Blanco for I only remember Blanco as this:

I forgot at one time, Blanco was a good looking woman herself.

I am looking forward to Cocaine Godmother which will premier on Lifetime Movie Network in January 2018. Confirmed date will posted once known.

Life and Death of Merlin Santana

14 March 1976 – 9 November 2002

I used to have a lot of time in my hands right now, so I spend some of it reading and most of it watching movies or TV shows on my iPad via the Xfinity Player. While looking at the different TV shows on the Xfinity Player I came across a show called Celebrity Crime Files. This show is broadcast on TVOne and chronicles the death of high profile African Americans and this particular episode focused on Merlin Santana, who played Romeo Santana  The Steve Harvey Show from 1996-2002. He was also on Moesha and Hangin With Mr. Cooper. Some may remember him as Stanley on The Cosby Show from 1991 to 1992.

While on The Steve Harvey Show Merlin gained more fame and the perks that come with it which includes being able to jump to the front of the line when going to clubs, which Merlin did from time to time (go to clubs). But once the show ended so did the perks. He found himself having to wait in line with everyone else and not getting the special treatment he comes accustomed to. In addition, he found the roles, TV, and movie, were not flying in as he had hoped. The auditions he thought he nailed, he learned the roles went to someone else and this was a blow to him for he had been working as an actor since about the age of 10, and now at the age of 26, he was out of work.but I believe his claim to fame was The Steve Harvey Show.

It is believed that Merlin had severe depression after The Steve Harvey Show ended, but instead of staying inside and dealing with his depression, he tried other avenues, one of them is recording a rap album. He thought he could sell the album off his fame as Romeo, but I do not believe the album fared well and people found it hard to believe that Stanley and Romeo put out the type of rap album as Merlin did. People saw Merlin as the sweet and lovable Stanley and Romeo, not a gangsta rapper.

One particular night he’s out with his friend Byron Adams (also a child actor People Under the Stairs) at a Chinese restaurant when they met up with a girl and her friend. The girl told Merlin that her name was Mercedes. All four of them had dinner and went to a club later that night and hung out. Later on that evening, Merlin and “Mercedes” had sex and then went their separate ways afterward. The next day when “Mercedes was hanging with Merlin he didn’t show her the same attention he did the day before and this fueled something in her. But let’s get the backstory on “Mercedes” whose real name is Monique King.

Monique had been in 18 foster homes due to her mother being a prostitute and a drug addict. Monique’s father was not in the picture at all. Monique learned to manipulate people to get what she wants or to get people to do what she wants. Her ability to do this would lead to Merlin’s untimely death.

I am not sure if it was the same night or a few days later, but Monique met up with some friends of hers, Damien Gates and Brandon Bynes, along with the girl she was with the night she met Merlin. Because she was mad at Merlin for “giving her the cold shoulder”, she told Gates and Bynes that Merlin had raped her and she told in a way that it got her friends fired up and wanting to do something about it. That same night, they went back to their place and got their guns. Gates got a 12 gauge shotgun with a laser on it and Bynes got a handgun. The faithful day was 9 November 2002.

After retrieving their weapons, they learned where Merlin would be, which was at a house party, and waited for him to come out of the house. When Merlin and his friend left the party, they sat in Brandon”s car for a second or so. While sitting there they noticed a red laser in the review mirror and both looked back to see what it was and that’s when Gates and Bynes opened fire on Merlin and his friend, mostly at Merlin. Brandon was able to drive off and once he was in a safe spot, he noticed that Merlin was slumped over in the passenger seat. Brandon immediately called 911 in which Merlin was taken to the hospital but later died. The cause of death was a bullet to the head.

The police later arrested Monique, (who was really 15). and her accomplices. It was later learned the shot that killed Merlin was from the 12 gauze (Gates) and not the handgun (Bynes) because it jammed. Monique only got 10 years in juvenile hall for her participation in the crime. She will be 25 years old when exiting from Juvenile Hall. She will have her whole life ahead of her. Gates got three consecutive life sentences plus 70 years in prison. Bynes received 23 years of assault with a deadly weapon and voluntary manslaughter.

I am not sure if Santana would have had a long career in the movies, but I’m sure he would have had one on TV, and from what I gather from the show Celebrity Crime Files, Santana was a descent guy.decent guy.

His murder was senseless, as most murders are. The person who initiated the hit is enjoying her life and more than likely not caring about what she did. She might even be planning to take someone else out or someone has or will take her out. But I believe strongly in Karma and she will get hers, either now or in her old age.

Correction: The friend that Merlin was with on the night he died name was Brandon, not Byron
